General Construction Induction (White Card)

Short Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work. 

 It is expected that site-specific induction training will be conducted prior to conducting construction work. 

Entry requirements or Pre-requisites

You must be at least 14 years of age and be able to present 100 Points of Identification to the trainer prior to commencement of the course.

Licensing Requirements

It is a mandatory requirement for all people who work on, or regularly access operational construction zones without supervision, to hold a NSW General Construction Induction card (white card).

This course meets the requirements of SafeWork NSW for the issue of a General Construction Induction Card (white card).

Documents issued on successful completion

On successful completion of this course, you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency completed as part of the course. 

 Additionally, you will receive a Statement of Training on the day of the course to recognise your successful completion of this course. This SOT allows you to commence work immediately and will be valid for a period of 90 days, during which time you will be issued a wallet-sized General Construction Induction card (white card) issued by SafeWork NSW which will be posted to the address provided on your enrolment form.

Learning outcomes
The delivery of this course will cover the following elements:

  1. Identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
  2. Identify construction hazards and risk control measures
  3. Identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
  4. Identify incident and emergency response procedures

Course duration
6 hours (Mandatory face-to-face as per SafeWork NSW)

Assessments Conducted
Formal assessment will be conducted in order to assess individual’s competency regarding the required skills and knowledge within the unit of competency. The Assessment Tools for a licensed outcome (white card) are mandated by SafeWork NSW.

The following assessments will be conducted as part of this short course:

  • Written knowledge assessment
  • Written scenario-based assessment
  • Oral knowledge assessment
  • Demonstration of correct fitment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
